Description

Ancus Mārcius is the fourth in a series of beginner level Latin novellas. It follows Ancus Marcus, the fourth king of Rome, through his election, establishment of new rituals to declare war, and his waging of war against the Priscī Latīnī, or Old Latins. Once conquered, those people migrate to Rome and inhabit the Aventine Hill. Rome then conquers more land all the way down to the sea, which gives occasion for the foundation of the coastal port of Ostia and establishment of salt-works. This narrative follows the account of the ancient Roman historian Titus Līvius, also called Livy. Topics covered include Roman government, religion, warfare, emotions, and the hills of the city of Rome.

Written for the beginning learner, the story incudes a limited vocab set used repeatedly to aid in acquisition. Images throughout the text and a comprehensive lexicon at the end of the text aid in comprehension. Look out for the accompanying workbook!
