Description
Lūcius Tarquinius Prīscus is the fifth of a beginner-level series of Latin novellas. The story follows Lucumō, the son of a wealthy Corinthian immigrant to the Etruscan town of Tarquinii, and his wife Tanaquil through their move to Rome and his campaigning to be elected king of Rome. Once renamed and elected as the fifth monarch of the city, Lūcius Tarquinius Prīscus embarks on wars with surrounding Latin cities and a building program in Rome. This account is based on the work of the ancient Roman historian Titus Līvius, also called Livy.
Topics covered include Roman government, religion, horse racing, warfare, games, architecture, and the hills of the city of Rome. Grammatical structures introduced through their use in the story include future tense verbs and the demonstrative pronouns hic, haec, hoc (this) and ille, illa, illud (that).
Written for the beginning learner, the story incudes a limited vocab set used repeatedly to aid in acquisition. Images throughout the text and a comprehensive lexicon at the end of the text aid in comprehension. Look out for the accompanying workbook!
